The Peanut Institute has informed us of a new study that shows that high risk adolescents who consistently consumed a daily snack of peanuts and peanut butter significantly decreased their Body Mass Index (BMI) over a 6-month period.
The study involved 257 Latino boys and girls who were overweight and obese. The researchers said that peanuts were one of the 'smartest snacks', with zero empty calories. The relatively high fat and protein content of peanuts helps to promote satiety while providing a healthy snack option for weight management. The Peanut Institute said 'Peanut snacks can provide a dual benefit of weight management and healthier diets.' For info, see www.peanut-institute.org
